There are several forms of pigmentation the Cosmelan peel successfully targets including:

Melasma – triggered by heat, stress and hormonal factors and found on the top lip, cheek and forehead. Laser treatment is often incorrectly advised to treat melasma, however research and evidence overwhelmingly show that heat-based laser solutions are not effective for this condition and will only trigger and worsen melasma. The Cosmelan peel is our non-laser alternative and will effectively correct and remove melasma.

Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation – trigged by an inflammatory process and can appear all of the face and most commonly after a skin lesions (pimples).

Liver spots (Lentigo)  – Caused be excess amounts of sun exposure, ageing and also some medications. Lentigo spots can appear all over the face but are largely found on the side of the face.

Freckles (Epehelidies hypo pigmentation) – caused by genetics and triggered and darkened by sun exposure.

The Cosmelan peel is pain free and completed in conjunction with the professional home care pack, will drastically reduce and remove pigment, leaving you with long-lasting clear and flawless skin.

A thorough evaluation is required at our clinic ahead of a Cosmelan® Peel treatment where you’ll be advised which of your current skin treatments you should stop using prior to the treatment date. This prevents any adverse reactions. You may need to prep you skin 2 weeks prior treatment depending on your skin needs. The Peel is applied as a mask in the clinic. It is non-invasive procedure which generally is pain-free. Most patients report mild warm sensation during the process of peeling but no pain.

The clinical treatment is the first step of the peel, you are then to follow a strict home care routine for 6 months following your treatment. During the following months, we will be in contact with you to make sure that the treatment is going smoothly and recommend regular facials to assist in the ongoing support to maximize your results.

How long will the treatment last?

Results will last if clients adhere to the post-treatment plan. It is recommended to continue the use of home care for at least 6 months, which may be extended up to 9 months depending on the progression of each individual case. Cosmelan® 2 can be used indefinitely with longer intervals between applications for maintenance of results, but the Cosmelan® 1 peel can be repeated once per year if needed.

COSMELAN PEEL PROCESS

Read why I believe in the Cosmelan peel treatment so much...

Pigmentation for me has always been my biggest insecurity with my skin. I’ve always struggled with my uneven skin tone. As a teenager and in my early twenties, I would squeeze and pick at my face when I had a breakout, which caused Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation on my cheek area. Fast forward to pregnancy, and hello Melasma!!

I had the typical pregnancy mask that I know so many women experience.

My pigmentation has improved somewhat in the past few years, but I’ve always been searching for something more. Laser treatment was an option, but it scared the hell out of me as I have treated so many clients who have had many terrible experiences from unqualified therapists.

Those who were fortunate to have a good result after laser always found that the pigmentation would be back after a few months.Money down the drain!!!

For two weeks prior to the Cosmelan Peel, I ensured I stopped using my Vitamin A (Retinol Palmytate) for 2 weeks pre peel.

I started using the Mesoestetic® Hydra Fusion Cream, Mesoestetic® Hydratonic Mist, and Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K few days before the treatments to help with my hydration levels.

I made sure not to have any sun exposure in the few weeks leading up to the treatment to ensure my skin was in good condition.

I was feeling so nervous but very excited. I knew the peel itself would be easy enough to deal with, even though I had to wear it for 8 hours. I made sure I had planned my day and organised for the kids to be picked up from school, so I didn’t have to leave the house.

I was more feeling nervous about what to expect post-treatment with downtime as there have been many mixed reviews. I recommend applying the peel at the beginning of the day so you can remove it in the evening.

The peel cannot be slept in. At 10am, I took some before photos, and my skin was cleansed and degreased thoroughly to remove any excess oils. Barrier cream was applied to my mouth, nose and eyes to protect the skin. I applied the Cosmelan 1 Cream, which looks like a brown clay mask. It is applied thickly over my whole face and is not uncomfortable at all. The process is actually nice and relaxing.

As the hours went by, the mask did start to dry a little, and it started to crack and separate around the mouth area from eating and talking. Still, there was no discomfort at all, if anything, a very slight tingling sensation that wasn’t painful. I left my peel on for 8 hours (the time depends on your skin type) and at 6pm washed it off.

Finally, it was time to remove the peel. I jumped in the shower (ensuring it wasn’t too hot) and used a soft, cool, clean face washer to wipe the majority of the peel. I used the Hydra Milk Cleanser and massaged it into the skin to ensure all the peel was off. I again wiped very gently with the face washer.

Once out of the shower, I toned with the Mesoestetic® Hydratonic Mist thoroughly. I used the Hydra Vital Mask for 15 minutes, removed it, then applied a really good amount of the Melanin Recovery moisturiser and some Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K.

At this point, the skin was feeling a lot more tingly and hotter.

I cleansed gently, toned and applied the Mesoestetic® Melan Recovery and Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K.

I had to go to work for a few hours, so I took the creams with me and applied it a few times to help with the discomfort. In the evening, I cleansed, toned and applied my Mesoestetic® Hydra-Vital Face Mask for 15 min.

I felt a bit uncomfortable, so I took some Nurofen to help with the discomfort, which definitely helped me get a good sleep.

Still a nice shade of pink but not as sore as yesterday. I applied the mask again this morning and a good amount of the Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K., which I don’t think I could live without right now.

Peeling has started around the mouth, but I am keeping it nice and hydrated.

I did my calming skincare routine 3 times today (cleanse, tone, moisturiser), which I think is really helping.

I woke up this morning, and there was lots of peeling happening. It was still feeling very sensitive. I had a shower and double cleansed.

I applied my cleanser with minimal water and really massaged it into the skin.

I used a clean face washer to gently wipe over my face to help remove the peeling skin that was ready to come off. It is so important not to pick at any skin that is not ready to come away. Again, throughout the day.

I kept up with my Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K.I did an extra cleanse throughout the day, also like yesterday, which really helps.

It is time to start Phase 2 of the process and introduce the Cosmelan 2 cream to my home care routine. I am a bit nervous as my skin is still feeling quite sensitive.

I cleansed, toned (wait 2 min for the toner to dry as it is a bit tingly when I apply). I then mixed a pea-size amount of Cosmelan 2 cream with my Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital K and Mesoestetic® Melan Recovery.

I plan to do this morning and night for the next 4 weeks.

I honestly thought the peeling would bother me so much more but I feel like I am managing it really well with my homecare products and routine. I am really taking the time to cleanse well and I think this is making a huge difference.

I am using my silicone brush cleanser on low speed and with gentle circular motions going over my skin. I am even feeling comfortable leaving the house without any makeup.

The past few days have been a little up and down. Sometimes my skin would feel really sore and sensitive so I would give the Cosmelan 2 a miss during my morning routine and just really hydrate as much as possible.

I am using my silicone brush cleanser on low speed and with gentle circular motions going over my skin. I am even feeling comfortable leaving the house without any makeup.

Skin is feeling great. I am not going to wear makeup for another few days just to let my skin heal properly.
I have applied the Cosmelan 2 cream both morning and night without too much sensitivity the past 2 days.

I have been using the Cosmelan 2 treatment cream morning and night now for the 4 weeks since I did the Cosmelan 1 peel. My skin has been up and down with sensitivity levels. I found I needed to have a break for a day with the Cosmelan 2 every now and then help with comfort levels.

I am now going to start using the Cosmelan 2 Treatment Cream at night only.

Overall, I am happy with the treatment and the difference in my skin. It is a very intense peel, but with preparation and planning, it is very much worth it for how confident I feel now.

I love the comments I have been receiving about how good my skin looks.
