Description

Take your Skin Care to the next level with Dermaplaning Facial.

Dermaplaning is a facial treatment that exfoliates the outer layer of skin & removes the fine vellus hair on the face which can trap dirt and oil that sits on the top layer leaving the skin dull. By removing this layer and the vellus hair. The skin will be healthier, smoother and radiant.

You will also find that your skincare products (serums & moisturisers) will better penetrate your skin when you apply them, making them all the more effective.

FAQ

What are the side effects of Dermaplaning?

In the hands of a professional, Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types, especially those with sun damage, fine lines, dry patches, and dull skin. But, of course, there are caveats: If you have highly reactive, sensitive skin (like those with rosacea or keratosis pilaris), you may want to pass on this one, since it might irritate your skin. Same goes for anyone with inflamed acne—unsurprisingly, sliding a sharp scalpel over your pimples can irritate them and worsen existing breakouts.

Will Dermaplaning cause breakouts?

Quite the opposite. A buildup of dead skin can clog your pores and hair follicles, which can not only cause pimples but also block your skincare products from penetrating the skin, which is why exfoliation is essential for maintaining an even, healthy glow.

Is there any downtime after a Dermaplaning Treatment?

Some light redness can be expected but not always. “It’s perfectly fine and typical to make an appointment during lunch and go right back to work after the 45-minute treatment.

Can you wear makeup after Dermaplaning?

Ever notice how peach fuzz tends to stand out even more underneath foundation and face powders? Well, since dermaplaning removes all the little hairs on your face, your makeup will actually glide on super smoothly. But hold up—although it’s tempting to see the results right away, try to avoid slapping on a face full of makeup immediately after your dermaplaning treatment.

“I love to let the skin breathe for the rest of the day. “If you need to wear makeup, you can, but your skin barrier is more open and may become more irritated.” Once your skin has had time to settle (about a day), proceed with all the foundation, your little heart desires.

Should I put anything on my skin after Dermaplaning?

Since your skin barrier will be more vulnerable after dermaplaning, we recommend using a rich hyaluronic acid mask or Ultraderm Skin Karma Moisturising Lotion to help repair your skin and keep it super hydrated and happy.

How often do I need Dermaplaning treatments?

Since this is a deeply exfoliating treatment, We recommend waiting at least a month between appointments, although some patients with sensitive skin can limit their treatments to even once a season.

Will dermaplaning make my skin more sensitive to the sun?

Post-exfoliation, your skin will be especially susceptible to the sun, so if you don’t take sun protection seriously (it’s 2019! Come on! It’s time!), you might want to skip this treatment altogether. Otherwise, you’ll need to be diligent with the SPF afterwards—use gentle sunscreens of at least SPF 30—but that should be the case every day of your life.

Myths

1. Dermaplaning will cause your hair to grow back darker

Of all the myths, this one is arguably the most misunderstood. This is a total myth. Your hair will grow back exactly the same colour and thickness as it was previously. You can’t change the structure of your hair follicle by simply shaving your hair off.”

This myth exists because women with darker complexion have darker vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) and most of the time, they won’t notice it because they’ve never removed their facial hair before. After the hair grows back, it seems like it is darker, but that is not the case. It’s simply that after dermaplaning because you are removing the dead layer of skin and vellus hair, your skin will appear much brighter than you’ve experienced in the past, and then after the regrowth, it seems darker.

2. Dermaplaning will cause your hair to grow back thicker

Shaving your peach fuzz does not change the structure of your hair follicle? You’re cutting the hair off on the surface level of your skin, without even affecting the actual follicle. “Hair grows at a blunt edge, so if you touch your face often, you may feel that hair growth coming back in and think that it is thicker, but that is not the case. Once the hair has fully grown back in, it will look and feel exactly the same as before,”

3. Dermaplaning is painful

Dermaplaning is totally pain-free, in fact, it’s less painful than waxing, lasering, or threading. We use light feather strokes to remove the dead skin and peach fuzz. It is not abrasive or painful at all.

4. Dermaplaning will cause breakouts

The truth is the exact opposite — not only will dermaplaning not cause breakouts, it will actually prevent them from happening. By exfoliating the dead skin, [dermaplaning] will help to keep your skin clear. It will also allow for much better product penetration. With the dead skin cells, oil, and debris removed in the follicle, the active ingredients will absorb quicker and more effectively, speeding up cell turnover and killing more bacteria. Removing that layer of dead skin with by dermaplaning will help to alleviate congestion.
